Happy New Year Everyone!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. I know I did and I also know that I have slacked off a bit this past month on my nutrition, workouts and yes even the housework. :-)

We are all extremely busy with extra parties, celebrations, shopping etc. so it's easy to let our fitness and eating habits go by the way side.
Or many of you may have a very difficult time emotionally due to the loss of loved ones or loved ones suffering during this time.
So, the lack of will to remain active has been lost or maybe you have turned to some not so healthy comfort foods. Therefore, I want to reach out to you now and help you get back on track.
With the New Year there is new hope and new excitement for a fresh start.

First, I want to warn you...
Marketers and advertisers love to play on our desire for a quick and easy fix so be on the lookout for the crazy ads that come out without fail this time of year guaranteeing things like…
- You can lose 20 lbs and get shredded in 10 days by taking some pill, drinking some special drink, or using some piece of equipment just 10 minutes a day.
- Use some miracle herb or wrap yourself with something magical and just watch your unwanted fat just melt away without even having to exercise.
- My favorites are the mysterious ones that tell you, you can transform your body in one week by eating their super foods. You will accelerate calories burned, burn belly fat and shed inches overnight.
- Or how about this old add…
I mean how crazy is this?
This just shows how advertisers
are there to sell and not care what they are doing to your health.
You remember this old adage right?
"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
If losing weight AND KEEPING IT OFF were this easy...
why are so many of us overweight or why do we lose weight then gain it all back?
Because losing weight is NOT easy! And it can’t be done with some quick quirky fix.
Especially in today’s society of fast paced everything including food.
Which means most of the food IS NOT healthy for us, even if we think it is.
If the food you’re eating came in a bag or box it is filled with hidden sugar, fat and/or salt even if the package is telling us differently.
Another reason why weight loss is so hard is because we are creatures of habit and whether you realize it or not you have picked up some not so healthy habits.
So, the #1 weight loss program is this…
START SMALL!
I want to strongly encourage you to start with small changes first, not big ones.
Sure you can try some crazy diet and completely change your routines to live some very different lifestyle.
You will probably lose some weight at first, but come talk to me in a few weeks and let me know how you are doing.
When you make big behavior changes it is more difficult to stick with them...
...and you will go right back to your old eating habits.
And guess what?
The weight you lost is probably going to come right back.
So, what should you do instead?
Think of one small thing you can change and stick to that for 2 weeks.
Here are some key things that will make a huge difference...
- Drink more water
- Cut back on the amount of soda/sugar/alcoholic drinks you consume each day, week etc.
- Cut back on the number of times you go out to eat each week
- Add more fruit/veggies to one of your meals each day
- Start learning real portions and cut back on the amount of food you are eating
- Make sure to always eat a healthy breakfast
Remember the idea is to pick ONE thing and work on that.
Also, notice some of the ideas don’t say to completely stop consuming something or to consume tons of something new.
That won’t work and the new habit you’re trying to create won’t stick.
It took a while to create these not so healthy habits in your life so you can’t just change them overnight.
When that one change becomes easier to do, that’s when it is time to move on to the next small change.
Next, you MUST GET SUPPORT!
In order to be successful you need support from as many people as possible.
So don’t be afraid to tell the world about your fitness goals.
Be proud of the changes you are embarking on and share them with your support system for accountability.
In a study done in the Department of Nutrition at Harvard, it was found that:
- the more support participants had
- the more weight they lost
- and more importantly the less they put back on after they
finished the diet.
In fact those who had support lost an average of 20 lbs vs. 9 lbs for those who did not.
Making lifestyle changes can be challenging so it is so important to find a support team to cheer you on!
You need to be comfortable with yourself/body and know that this will not be a straight upward hill climb.
There are going to be bumps, falls, trips, and sprints along the way so expect them and be ok with your choices when it happens.
Just use your support team and let them help pick you back up and get you back on the path to success!
I know from working with a lot of clients that even getting the support you need may be difficult for some.
