Your Second Step to Weight Loss Effectiveness...
Patience!
Well I hope everyone did their homework from last week and began to practice mental awareness. If you missed last week’s blog please click this link to read it as you must read and practice the first step in this weight loss journey in order for it to be effective.
It was so awesome to hear from some you last week!
We all seem to struggle with similar issues yet sometimes feel so alone in our weight loss journey because we keep our true feelings and struggles to ourselves. So I truly thank you for reaching out to me and allowing me to help you. Remember you are not alone but yes you and you alone have to put the effort in for this to work. Like learning a new musical instrument. You start somewhere, practice 10 minutes a day, and gradually get better. The same is true with mindset change.
"In order to cultivate a positive attitude, you have to put in the time, effort and introspection. There's no way around it. And unfortunately, with mindset change, you can't just "get it" and move on. It is something you PRACTICE every day. You stay consistent, have trust and eventually it becomes effortless."
Here's an example from my life, perhaps you can relate:
It was a typical fall Sunday in my household. While my entire family was all nestled quietly sleeping in their beds I was up at the crack of dawn to prepare for the day ahead. I left to go grocery shopping and returned as the rest of the family was just waking up. Then it was game on, feed the kids and make sure they had all of their soccer gear ready for the games they had that day.
My husband and I have 2 boys who are heavily involved in sports and Sundays we get to watch them play their soccer games which are usually over an hour drive away for each one. So needless to say we are in the car A LOT! When the games were finally done and we arrived home it was time to prepare for the school and work week as well as start cooking supper. It was about this time when my loving husband and children sat down to watch what was left of the football games that day.
I was fuming!
How dare they just sit down while I still had all of this work to do? Then after we ate they still continued to watch the games while I had to clean the kitchen. It just HAD to get done right away. Or did it? Why did the dishes really have to get done right away? Why was I so angry at everyone?
Was it because I was frustrated at not eating the best food that day while we were on the road? Was it because I felt guilty for not at least getting a walk in today? AH HAH! I was projecting my negative feelings about my own self onto my family. Once I was able to identify the true source of my negative feelings I was able to learn from them moving forward.
So how do you practice? In addition to becoming AWARE of when you are in a negative frame of mind, you must have be patient. Yikes! That's hard! :) Especially in our modern society where everything we could ever want is a couple keyboard clicks away and there's always some snake oil salesman promising a faster, better, stronger, more efficient product. Well, when it comes to mindset change, there's no such thing as a quick fix.
So, I would like for you to continue to wrap your mind around the fact that if you want to be truly committed to this journey and this process, you have to be PATIENT . The only way to speed up the pace of your own mental transformation is to--you guessed it--practice 10 minutes a day :) Like learning a musical instrument. Daily introspection, reading these blogs in their entirety and then most importantly, LOOKING IN THE MENTAL MIRROR. Get up close and personal with your thoughts, feelings and the WHY behind them. Introspect.
This week’s homework:
Try to think of the last time you were seemingly angry at someone else. Was it really them, or can you track your feelings back to your own actions or thoughts? Write it down, ask why you responded that way. Then find your own lesson.
And remember, please be PATIENT with yourself during this journey, you will have your ups and downs and that’s ok. Just keep learning and practicing. You can email me at jenn@efcfit.com about your experiences during this process. I would love to hear how it is going and help you in any way that I can.
Stay tuned for your next step in this journey and until then, have a GREAT and HEALTHY week!
